
STEVE COVELLO, MS
Steve Covello is the Rich Media Specialist at Granite State College. He earned an MS in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation from Syracuse University, with a concentration in Interactive Technology and Distributed Learning. His background is in video media content design/development, and Web design/publishing on the WordPress platform. Steve worked for 20+ years as a video editor and graphic animator for advertising, educational, corporate, fine art, and documentary clients in New York City and Syracuse, NY areas.
Steve was born in raised in the New York City area, growing up in Central Nyack, NY in suburban Rockland County. Both of his parents were music educators, who published piano music pedagogy for early learners for over 30 years.
In 1984, Steve earned an A.S. in Bowling Lanes Management and Pinspotter Mechanics from Vincennes University Jr. College in Vincennes, Indiana on his way to pursuing a career as a professional 10-pin bowler on the PBA Tour. In 1990, he returned to undergraduate studies at William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ to complete a BA in Communications – Radio/TV, and then worked in New York City serving the television advertising industry. He pursued an interest in club music DJ work and multitrack digital music composing and remixing, releasing a commercial CD, “Nighty-Night: Deep Soul in Dub” under the name of Weevie, and remixing Naughty by Nature’s “Hip-Hop Hooray” for Tommy Boy Records (unreleased).
In 2002, Steve and a production partner founded a boutique post-production company called doublewide post LLC, on 20th street in Manhattan. Doublewide earned awards for innovative production techniques using matrixed synchronized cellphone cameras as a recording instrument, creating branded entertainment for Motorola. DW also earned a Webby nomination for E.O. Wilson’s Encyclopedia of Life launch video, and recognition for producing artist Laurie Simmons’ full-length HD film “The Music of Regret” starring Meryl Streep, shown at MOMA, Tate, and other venues around the world.
Steve moved to Syracuse, NY in 2007, where he earned CIW v5 Associate Web Design & Development certification, Apple Help Desk certification, and an MS from Syracuse University, where he was awarded the 2011 IDD&E Master’s Portfolio Award. Steve is currently a Research Associate for IBSTPI – the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction.
Steve has bowled two perfect games and series of 802 and 833 in sanctioned 10-pin competition. He enjoys DJ and music remixing, candlepin bowling, table tennis, playing with his two kids, and growling Tuvan throat singing for unsuspecting guests.
